Isolation

Image
I was hoping to put up a post before this, but we've had some unforeseen circumstances which have meant we've been without a tablet or laptop until yesterday. So we've survived a week of isolation, it feels weird having to do this again, but this time it's a bit different as we only have a tiny little balcony as our "outdoors". The kids are doing great, despite being bored out of their little minds, they have been remarkably good, a combination of lots of new things to see out the windows, and just a new adventure, even if it's only in our apartment for now.             Our flights over were a mixed bag, Singapore Airlines created a system whereby all passengers transiting through from Aotearoa or Australia would be shepherded through into a separate part of the airport, and then boarded into the back of the next plane, so not coming into contact with anyone just hopping onto a flight in Singapore. Great in theory, but when the plane landed in Singapore, a...

And we're off

So our journey is about to begin, we will board a Singapore Airlines flight on the 30th June, with some layovers in Singapore and Frankfurt, we will arrive in Dublin on the 1st of July, 46 hours later... The household goods have been shipped, the car is sold, all we have left is now going in our check in, or leaving here for mum & dad to sell (sorry). So on that note, goodbye to everyone for now, if you ever find yourself in Ireland, come and have a coffee or a pint, we'd love to see you. In the meantime, we're going to spend the last few days we have in Aoteroa with our family :) Haere rā

New Departure Date

So by now we were supposed to be well into our European holiday, we were looking forward to this so much, it was supposed to be the culmination of nearly 2 years of planning as well as basically turning ourselves into a Trademe store. We had culled our possessions down to the bare minimum with the aim of traveling to Europe with just 4 bags in tow. So while this isn't quite what we had planned, we are trying to stay positive, and make the most of the time we have now that I'm (Simon) on holiday. Being off work and Maddie off school has had some great benefits for the family, William's speech has shot up so much now that he's talking (rubbish) to his sister all day, and the daily walks have done wonders for their competence on their respective bikes. Now we have a new departure window (not date as no flights have been booked), we are hoping to get to Dublin by the first week of July, this is reasonably optimistic at this stage, but it's what we're working towar...

Hello World

Image
Just creating our first post to get this thing started. We planned on starting a blog to document our travels, however with the current situation around COVID-19 things aren't quite going to plan. Our original flights for the 4th of May have been cancelled, so we are on Plan B. For those who don't already know, our big adventure to Ireland was supposed to start, destination Cork or Dublin, with a bit of travel first loosely based on the above destinations. Those plans are going to be delayed somewhat, so instead we're going to post up our most recent trip to Nelson, a practice flight to make sure the little ones (William mainly on his first flight) could handle a short flight, before the real deal.
